Book review: those who must give an account

Apologetics

Think about this for just a second: what is the one biblical aspect of church life that is never discussed in your church? Well, if you are a Southern Baptist, you probably said church discipline! I would tend to think of this topic as one of the least discussed issue in church life, period!

Thankfully, a number of new resources have been published over the last year or so that seek to fill this gap. The latest is a book entitled, Those Who Must Give an Account. While specifically targeting Southern Baptist audiences, this resource would be valuable for any church seeking a deeper understand of church membership and discipline.

To put it bluntly, each chapter covers some aspect of church discipline that is being neglected in the SBC today. However, as a church history buff, I found two chapters especially useful. First, Nathan Finn provides an excellent historical approach to understanding biblical church membership. Second, Gregory Wills demonstrates the basis for and practice of church discipline throughout the history of the church.

If you are a pastor or church leader, I highly recommend Those Who Must Give an Account. A another excellent resource out forth by B&H Academic.
